Celebrations for  Africa Day in Laois took place on the grounds of Portlaoise Leisure 

Centre. The biggest celebration yet was a great success and brought together the entire Laois community. The event was organised by the Laois Africa Support Group, Laois County Council, Department of Foreign Affairs/Irish Aid and Let’s Play Portlaoise. We would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make the day such great fun for all who attended. 

The event consisted of a packed programme of events and performances throughout the day. The special day started with the competitive soccer match between Laois Africa and Laois Garda.  Lively dances, drama shows, African drumming, archery, DJ’s, musicians and original performers kept the crowds entertained. With great African food and colourful African attire, the atmosphere was joyful. 

The event was attended by many both Irish and International dignitaries including Laois County Council Cathaoirleach, Laois County Chief Executive, Laois TD’s,  Brazilian Ambassador, Polish Ambassador and the Councillor Yemi Adenuga and many more.
